Abdinur Ole Hussein, the Municipality CEO, spoke to the Eastleigh Voice, highlighting the ongoing exercise and its significance in mitigating the impact of the heavy rains that have pounded the region for the past three weeks.
"This morning, we were hard at work along Mandera Road, near Plaza Petrol Station and Gotcade area, opening up water channels," stated the CEO. He emphasised the critical role of the municipality in addressing the challenges faced by residential houses and business premises affected by stagnant water due to the relentless rains.

The municipality has also made daily town cleaning a top priority, focusing on the removal of solid waste and litter to prevent potential disease outbreaks during the rainy season. The region's high water table near the ground surface has presented difficulties for residents in digging pit latrines, resulting in the use of buckets for toilets. The overflow of fecal waste during the rainy season poses a significant threat of waterborne disease outbreaks.
To address these concerns, the Municipality and the Health Department have initiated sensitisation campaigns aimed at reducing the risk of disease outbreaks and educating residents on proper practices to manage the challenges associated with the bucket system. The proactive measures taken by Wajir County Municipality reflect their commitment to ensuring the community's well-being during challenging weather conditions.
